The simple lyrics of this song are pulled from the title of a book that was lying around on my coffee table, How Your Story Sets You Free. I never even read the book. But to me, that title speaks to what I have found to be most true in my own life: it is only in facing your own demons that you can become your most authentic self. The lyrics in this one are intentionally sparse. The message is simple and liberating. As I was recording vocals on this, I found inspiration from early REM and the way Michael Stipe uses his voice as a part of the instrumentation in those songs.
